What do you exactly do and since when?
I am a master of equine management and have been responsible for the jumping training of the stallions at the North Rhine-Westphalian State Stud since January 2022 and am also self-employed. At the same time, I have three eventing horses that successfully compete in international sport.
Briefly describe your career.
2014-2018 Member of the German Armed Forces Sports Development Group, training as a rider at the DOKR, then further training to become a master rider. Member of the federal squad for 7 years.
What successes have you already had?
Two-time German champion, three-time participant in the European U18 and U21 championships, European team runner-up, B-squad candidate and Bundeswehr sports support group member.
Eggersmann: Hello Pauline, you are a successful professional rider. Do you come from a riding family yourself? How do you balance friends and family with this time-consuming hobby/profession?Pauline: My mother bred a few dressage horses herself and rode dressage, but not professionally. Accordingly, I have always had contact with horses, but don't have my own facility. Luckily I have friends/family who support the sport and encourage me. I am very grateful for that!
Eggersmann: How was the step into self-employment for you?
Pauline: The step into self-employment in 2018 was very exciting and thrilling. It brought many hurdles with it, that I am still growing over today. Nevertheless, I am happy to have taken this step.
Eggersmann: How long have you been feeding Eggersmann products and why did you choose us?
Pauline: I have been feeding Eggersmann since summer 2018. Due to my self-employment, I was looking for a feed partner that supports my sport horses as well as possible and responds to the individual needs of the horses. I attach great importance to feed that is easy on the stomach but still provides the necessary energy for my eventing horses, which are in intensive training. I have found the ideal feed from Eggersmann with the Greenpower and the Structure Equichamp.
Eggersmann: According to which criteria do you compose the food of the animal?
Pauline: Due to the intensive training and the competitions, I make sure that the feed is particularly gentle on the horses' stomachs. For the sensitive horses, I feed the Greenpower alone. Otherwise, Equichamp is my basis for the concentrated feed. Depending on the age and level of the horse, I ration the amount of feed. What is noticeable, however, is that small amounts of Eggersmann feed already have enough effect, so that the mass of the feed is not in principle decisive for whether the horse looks good. Therefore, you do not need to feed the horse unnecessarily much concentrated feed.
Eggersmann: Is the feed changed over the year according to the situation? For example, for the show season or winter training?
Pauline: Within the year, I stick to one type of feed for the individual horse and only reduce or increase the amount of feed, depending on the season and tournament. I don't like to change the type of feed, because otherwise the stomach has to get used to it again.
Eggersmann: Do you feed your animals grain-free? If yes, why?
Pauline: For me, it is important that the feed is grain-free or has a very low grain content. Due to the intensive training, the tournaments and the associated longer journeys, the risk of stomach irritation increases. Therefore, I would like to protect and buffer the stomach with grain-free feed.
Eggersmann: What can't be missing from your food pantry?
Pauline: Electrolytes are an important part of my feed chamber, especially in the season when electrolyte consumption is higher. Mucostat is also an important ingredient which I feed all year round and which should never be missing. It is also good for the stomach. In addition, all horses have a mineral lick from Eggersmann for free use.
Eggersmann: What are your goals and whishes for you and your animals?
Pauline: In any case, the first priority is health - that of my horses and my own.
I would be delighted if my 7-year-old Timmy and I were allowed to take part in the World Championships for Young Horses again. That would be my personal highlight of the year! Among other things, there are some great international shows on the schedule and I hope to qualify promising young horses for the Bundeschampionat again.
